Band Festival Information
This year marks the seventeenth consecutive year the Pomerado Community Band has sponsored
the Southern California Community Band Festival. Again the bands will be performing
under the large gazebo in Old Poway Park . The Festival will be held May 14th and 15th
and is co-sponsored by the City of Poway and the Pomerado Community Band.And this
year theevent gets even better as the Poway Arts and Crafts Guild will join with
the musical groups and conduct their Arts & Crafts Market as part of the Festival.
This very special event has become a tradition in the San Diego area, attracting
thousands of visitors and more than 800 musicians over the weekend. The 16thAnnual
Southern California Community Band Festival and Arts & Crafts Marketpromises
to be an exciting event on a large scale. Please come to hear authentic patriotic
music played with gusto by your friends and neighbors!
Community bands from all over Southern California and Arizona will each be performing
a 45 minute mini-concert.Saturdays program will begin at 9:50 AM and conclude with
the Navy Band. Sundays program will start at noon and conclude with the
First Marine Division Band from Camp Pendleton. This entire program is FREE.
Community bands and military bands have been active in America since the country
was young. The community bands are made up of volunteer musicians; some are entities
on their own, and others are part of community college districts and adult education
programs. Regardless of structure these bands have members' love and dedication
to music and their instruments in common.

The Navy Band Southwest Showband
The Navy Band Southwest Ceremonial Band has a rich history dating back to its original
inception in 1971. Based at North Island Band prides itself
in presenting authentic performances of the sounds of the big band era along with
a variety of contemporary music.
The 1st Marine Division Big Band
The 1st Marine Division Big Band from Camp Pendleton also has a long history and

The Saturday program starting at 9:50 AM includes these bands: Poway Unified District Elementary Honor Band, El Cajon German Band, The Valley Winds, Palomar/Pacific Coast Concert, Band, Rancho Bernardo Community Band, City Guard Band, Ahwatukee Foothills Concert Band, and The Navy Ceremonial Band.
The Sunday program starting at 11:50 AM includes these bands: Main Street Community Band, Sierra del Mar Salvation Army Band, Kearny Mesa Concert Band, Hillcrest Wind Ensemble, Pomerado Community Band, San Diego Concert Band, and 1st Marine Division Big Band.
